SAFAR's Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide the best clinical care for our patients and to develop new and safe treatments to obtain a long lasting cure for food allergies. We plan to work closely with families and the community to carry out this goal. We are collaborating with other members of the Stanford scientific community and aspire to develop one of the top programs worldwide for the prevention and cure of food allergies.

About SAFAR

Stanford Alliance for Food Allergy Research

Food allergies are emerging as a major public health problem in the United States. Currently, food allergies affect 2% of adults and 8% of children across the country, and are increasing in prevalence for reasons that are poorly understood. Those most likely to be affected are individuals with a family history of asthma and allergies, genetic predisposition to allergic disease, and/or elevated allergen-specific serum immunoglobulin levels (IgE concentrations). Children younger than three years of age are also disproportionately affected.
